Lessons from Wicked in Today's Polarized Society

Lyle Enright and I delve into the nuances of the Wicked films, highlighting the story's enduring relevance to contemporary conversations about friendship, trust, and conflict resolution.

Well, technology humbled us once again! Our live conversation didn't go off without a hitch – there were about half a dozen hitches, in fact – but Lyle and I still had a wonderful conversation and we're delighted to be able to share it with all of you! Just follow this link to the Wicked Truth Facebook page!

In a world increasingly marked by polarization and division, Wicked provides a lens through which to examine our current social moment and our struggles with friendship, trust, and conflict resolution. Can we even tolerate conflict at all? Despite the challenges, it is vital to keep avenues for dialogue open, just as Elphaba and Glinda do, and so maintain hope for reconciliation.

I hope this discussion will serve as a call to action for you to reflect on your relationships and the dangers of resigning ourselves to a divided world. Wicked encourages us to seek understanding and connection in a world that often feels at odds. It's also a reminder that art can foster the meaningful conversations that feel so impossible right now.

When did you first become disillusioned by leaders or systems? What’s your take on the friendships that withstand conflict? How can art foster justice and peace? Please let us know your thoughts on all this and more in the comments below! I want to hear your thoughts!

Till next time, remember to always mourn the wicked. It’s what good people do.
